So, The Preferences…
These two videos explore the two sides of an ICON suite, the Pro Tools HD system’s preferences and the ICON console’s preferences. Key components of the PTHD prefs are your choices on the “Mixing” page amongst others. On your ICON you can completely customise how the unit behaves, where your custom fader groups go, how many faders they steal, what automation commands you want in your user pages…all these and more allow you to make the console jump to your commands, rather than fitting yourself into the “default” box.

Nice video as usual, Brent. But how can I export/import ICON preferences? I sometimes get a problem where PT ignores the pre-/post-roll if I start recording from the ICON, but works if I press “3″ on the keyboard numpad. When this happens I have to blow away my prefs, and have to set it all up again.
Hi Stig – unfortunately, but simply, your ICON prefs are stored invisibly inside your PT preferences file, so if you trash your PT prefs they will also disappear. Only way around it would be quite dodgy: basically set up your prefs in PT and on the ICON, on a fresh build, then copy that file to a safe location as your “safe state pref file” and any time you need to trash your prefs, replace the corrupted pref file with your backup.
I havent seen the preroll/postroll bug you’re describing, but have seen plenty of instances where kb plus icon works different to icon modifier keys, a bit buggy – make sure avid audio tech support know about it and have tried to reproduce it in house to log it for a bug fix.
Thanks, Brent. Yes, I’ve also noticed that keyboard and ICON modifiers behave differently sometimes. I’ve done a fresh setup in PT and the ICON, and backed up the preference file.
All the best.
i must say…pro tools HD truly does sound better!
